Gerald E. McCarthy "Jerry",81 of Newark passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, February 11, 2022. Jerry was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Blanche (Mackiewicz) and Joseph H. McCarthy. He was also predeceased by his brother, Joseph. He graduated from Salesianum School and served in the Delaware Air National Guard. Jerry worked for over 30 years for the DuPont Company, retiring as a shop supervisor. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, especially Hot Rods, talking and telling stories (with friends and strangers alike), and being an incredibly loving husband, father, and grandfather. Jerry could (and would) tell a joke in any situation and there is absolutely nothing he would not do to help a friend. Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine D. (Edwards) McCarthy; his daughters and their husbands, Kelly Stuart and Steven and Cathy McCarthy and Parker Myers; his grandchildren, Maeve, Gavin and Zoe; his brother, Eugene McCarthy (Carmela) and his sister-in-law, Joanne McCarthy; his nephew Jeff Cooke (Alayna), niece LouAnn Rees (Troy), niece Erika Blackburn (Martin), nephew Brandon McCarthy (Rachel) and many good friends and loving family members. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, February 17, 2022 at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington at 1:30 PM, where friends may visit after 12:30 PM. Burial will be private.
