Francis P. Zimny, age 83, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, April 18, 2022.

Fran was born in Wilmington, son of the late Helen and James Zimny. He proudly served our country in the Army National Guard. Fran started his own business, Summit Insulation in 1971, which later became Eastern Insulation in 1984. The company continued to expand and is now Eastern Industrial Services. He was an active member in the American Legion. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, rooting on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and 76ers, enjoyed being on the water in his boat, eating crabs, and spending as much time as possible with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Fran was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth A. Zimny and son, Michael Zimny (Colleen), brother Richard "Sonny" Zimny and two sisters, Helen "Sissy" Krzyzanowski and Jeanie Maida.

Fran is survived by his loving wife, Norma Zimny (Cooney); daughter, Connie Zimny-Christopher; sisters Doris Zdrojewski and Kathy Washall: brother John Zimny; stepsons, Brian (Mary), Jeffrey (Elaine), and Daniel (Judi) Cooney; grandchildren, Steven Shelton, Katie Boyle, Sam Green, Justine Zimny, Brianne Cramp, Michael Zimny, Matthew Cooney, Monica Keady, Trevor Cooney, Stacey Cooney, Dana Llano, Patrick Baird, Zachary Cooney; great grandchildren, - Sophie Boyle, Nolan Zimny, Aubree Zimny, Benjamin Cooney, Madeline Cooney, Tyler Cooney, Reagan Llano, Hayden Llano, Declan Baird, Rhys Baird, Cora Maeve Baird with two more on the way; and numerous close family and friends.

A visitation for Fran will take place on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, from 10 to 11 A.M. with a service beginning at 11 A.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held privately.
