Francis (Frank) R. Spence, age 82, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on April 5, 2021. Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Paul and Regina Spence. He served proudly in the United States Army before returning to Delaware. Francis worked as a Delaware State Trooper and Amtrak Police Officer, retiring after 37 ½ years. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending Wednesday evenings at the Delaware Association of Police, making improvements to his car, and most importantly, spending time with his family. Francis loved his grandchildren and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, Francis is predeceased by several brothers and sisters, and his wife of 48 years, Sandra Spence. Francis is survived by his daughters, Tina Spence (Doug) and Theresa Brittingham (Alan); his granddaughters, Desiree (John), Dana, and Tara; his great granddaughter, Layla; and his sister, Miriam Keenan. A visitation will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE from 11am-12:30pm with funeral services beginning at 12:30pm on Friday April 9, 2021. Burial will be held privately in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Sunday Breakfast Mission, Wilmington, DE.
