Fr. Cyprian
Rosen, Ofm Cap.
July 27, 1936 – June 24, 2024
Fr. Cyprian Rosen, OFM Cap., was born in Little Falls, NY on July 27, 1936, the son of the late Louis Rosen and Lottie Jankowski.
Fr. Cyprian began his life with the Capuchin Franciscans in September 1949, at St. Lawrence Seminary in Beacon, NY. After completing his novitiate he made his First Profession in July 1955 at Our Lady of Angels Friary in Staunton, VA. He returned to St. Lawrence Seminary for his philosophical studies and completed his theological studies in Pisa, Italy. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 24, 1962. Following ordination he was sent to Catholic University in Washington, DC for graduate studies in Canon Law.
For a number of years Fr. Cyprian taught in seminaries and formation houses. He also served on the diocesan Marriage Tribunal and was elected Provincial Minister of the Stigmata Province from 1985 to 1990. For more than forty years he worked closely with the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia primarily as chaplain to Our Lady of Angels motherhouse in Aston, PA.
In between pastoral and provincial assignments, Fr. Cyprian continued his formal studies and in 2009, was awarded a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Catholic University of America.
Fr. Cyprian was called to eternal life on June 24, 2024 at St. Francis of Assisi Friary in Wilmington, DE. He will be remembered for his gentle disposition, love of nature, keen interest in Franciscan studies and scholarship.
He is survived by his four siblings: David, and his wife Marion; Charlotte, and her husband Dan; Louis, and his wife Lucy; Richard, and his wife Margaret; as well and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces.
A wake service will be held at Our Lady of Angels Chapel, 609 Convent Rd., Aston, PA on Sunday, June 30th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm. To view a live webcast, please visit: https://www.youtube.com/live/KNPOrHN-I1k
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Angels Chapel, Aston, PA on Monday, July 1st, at 11:00 am followed by a luncheon. To view a live webcast, please visit: https://www.youtube.com/live/FbPczlNFxtM
Burial will be held the following day, July 2nd, at St. Lawrence Friary Cemetery, Beacon, NY at 11:30 am. A repast will be offered after the burial.
