Obituary

Eva I. Young, age 54, of Newark, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

Eva was born in Taipei, Taiwan, daughter of Grace and the late David Young. She started learning piano when she was five; later moved to England and attended Purcell music school.

Eva made her first concert appearance with the Royal College of Music Junior Department Orchestra in London as a result of winning the Peter Morrison Concerto Competition. At an early age she also played at London's major theatrical centers, the South Bank and the Barbican. She received critical acclaim for these performances.

Since immigrating to the United States, Eva has performed frequently at the Bach Aria Festival, the Music Academy of the West, and the Interlocken Center of the Arts as both vocal coach and accompanist.

She was invited to premiere composer Lu Yen's piano concerto with the Taipei Contemporary Chamber Orchestra at Taiwan's National Concert Hall. She has performed work of the Steve Reich with the New World Symphony in Florida and the work of Aaron Jey Kernis at the Pacific Festival in Japan

As harpsichordist she has performed with violinist Soovin Kim and cellist Edward Aaron from the Astral Artistic Services in Philadelphia; with violinist Nark Peskanove and I Virtuosi Italiani at Barge Music; with members of the Orion String Quartet; with the New York consort of violins; with the Ann Arbor Chamber Museum players; with the Philadelphia Classical Symphony; and with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.

Eva holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory, University of Michigan and was a Phd candidate in Rutgers University. She is a Licentiate in Piano Teaching of the Royal Academy of Music in London. Eva has taught at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. She was on the faculty of the Community Music School of the University of Delaware and was an active church musician. She had held a private piano studio, enjoyed teaching and sharing her talents with others. In her free time, Eva loved spending time with her family and friends.

Eva is survived by her mother, Grace Young; brothers, Philip and Edward Young; and numerous close family friends whom she all loved.
