Eugene Mark "Fox" West, age 73, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, October 9, 2023.

Eugene was born in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Eleanor (Burns) and Larimore West. Eugene graduated from Wilmington High School and attended the University of Delaware. Eugene served our nation honorably in the U.S Coast Guard, and later worked as an accountant for New Castle County for over 25 years until his retirement. Eugene was very active in politics in the City of Wilmington and was awarded the distinguished service award in 2003. In his free time, Eugene enjoyed gardening, going to the beach in Wildwood Crest, NJ, rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, and watching horse races with his friends at the Defiance Club. In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by his brothers, Mark and Michael West; and nephew, Martin West.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Phyllis West; brother, Matthew West (Patricia); brother-in-law Joseph L. Gentile; sisters in law, Joann E. Spence and Maryann Brown (Charles); godson, David Ross; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends whom he all loved.

The family would like to thank Accent Care Hospice at Wilmington Hospital for all their care and support during this difficult time.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Eugene on Monday, October 23, 2023 at 11am at St. Thomas of the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 301 N. Bancroft Pkwy, Wilmington, DE, 19805. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery.
