Eugene Alexander
Baeurle
November 8, 1934 – December 14, 2022
Gene Baeurle, 88 passed away on December 14th at Shipley Living (Wilmington DE), where he was a resident for the past eight years. His children would like to thank the staff at Shipley Living for the wonderful care and compassion they provided their father. Prior to Shipley Living, Gene lived in Dewey Beach, DE, Wilmington, DE and Scranton, PA.
Gene was born and raised in Scranton, PA and was preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Margaret Baeurle as well as his sister Margaret Baeurle Little. Gene is survived by his three children, their spouses and eight grandchildren: Michael Baeurle (Rebecca Baeurle), children: Kate and Alex, James Baeurle (Courtney Baeurle) children: Lucy (Will Kesley), Lily and Grace and Annmarie Baeurle Borcky (Richard Borcky): children: Ben, Brianne and Brett. He is also survived by brother-in- law James Lavelle (Linda) and eight nieces and nephews.
Gene was married to his loving wife, Mary Winafred Lavelle Baeurle, for 53 years before her passing in 2014. Gene and Mary had known each other since the third grade. When Gene announced to his mother that Mary Lavelle was this girl he was going to marry someday, her response was, "you should be so lucky." And he was. They had a beautiful loving relationship that was admired by all who knew them. They were very involved parents who loved attending all their children's sporting events, and Gene coached many of their teams. Gene attended the University of Scranton and later joined his father's business, Baeurle Insurance Agency. In the early 70's Gene sold the Agency, moved the family to Wilmington, DE and joined Nationwide Insurance where he worked for thirty years as Senior Claims Adjuster. Gene and Mary retired to Dewey Beach, DE where Gene enjoyed golf, frequenting all the local establishments, and spending time with Mary, his many friends, children, and grandchildren. Gene will be remembered for his mischievous nature, sense of humor, welcoming spirit, and generous heart.
A funeral mass will be held on January 5th at St. Edmonds Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. The family will accept guests at 10:00a.m. followed by a Mass at 11:00a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Shipley Living Staff Holiday Fund, 2723 Shipley Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
