Ethel L. Akers "E.J.", "Topsy", 66 of Wilmington passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
E.J. was born in Chester, PA, the daughter of the late Sadie (Cheyney) and Mitchell Gay. She graduated from Claymont High School and worked as an LPN for Riddle Hospital for over 10 years, followed by working for various doctor's offices. Ethel was an avid bowler at Holiday Lanes and enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition to her parents, E.J. was predeceased by her brother, James "Sonny" Cox.
E.J. is survived by her husband of 25 years, Frank L. Akers, Jr.; her children and their spouses, James "Jay" and Kerry Jamison, Joseph and Laura Jamison, Frank L., III and Elizabeth Akers and Victoria and Russell Ford all of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Kaylie, Bailey, Joey, Kai, Danni, Tyler, Brandon, Leo, LJ, Ellie, Charlie, and Billy; her sister, Elizabeth Chapman of Wilmington and her brothers, Clinton Cox of Ridley Park, PA and Mitchell Gauge (Carol) of Blackbird, DE.
Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Delaware Humane Association.
