Elizabeth Theresa Jones, 85 of New Castle passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Seasons Hospice with her daughter by her side. Elizabeth was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Elizabeth (Duncan) and Elmer Burns. She graduated from St. Elizabeth High School and worked as a key punch operator for the DuPont Company for over 14 years. After raising her daughter, she went to work as a lunch monitor at William Penn High School. Elizabeth was a member of the Lucians, the Weston Senior Center, Our Lady of Fatima and Holy Spirit Churches. She was predeceased by her siblings, Robert Burns, Patricia Woerner and Kathleen Jarrell. Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 56 years, Mike Jones; her daughter, Lynn Leonard and her former spouse, Dennis of Hockessin; her grandchildren, Delaney, Michael and John "Jack"; her sister, Marie Tabasso of Smryna; her sister-in-law, Charlotte Burns of Milton and many nieces and nephews. Elizabeth blessed many with her wit and sense of humor. Anyone who knew her certainly has a story to tell that involves lots of laughing. Elizabeth was a devoted wife and then mother, but her greatest role may have been the role of Mom Mom. Her love of her entire extended family was unwavering and she enjoyed nothing more than seeing people laugh and smile. She was always the one to capture special memories. It was rare to see her without a video camera on her shoulder. She left a legacy of love, laughter and special memories. In her final years, Parkinson's slowed her down physically but her wit and laughter never stopped Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Holy Spirit Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle, DE 19720 at 11 AM. There will be no viewing. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Church at the address above.
