Obituary

Eleanor P. Jablonski, age 96, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Born in Wilmington DE, she was the daughter of the late Anna (Kachmar) and Julian Pawlowicz. Eleanor graduated from Wilmington High school in 1947. She then went on to work at Hercules Inc. where she met the love of her life, F. Kenneth Jablonski and married in 1961. They moved to Pirmasens, West Germany where Ken was stationed in the army and had their first child, Karen, while there. After Ken was transferred to France shortly thereafter, they moved back to the states and after living in North Wales, PA they built their forever home in Wilmington DE and raised two children with Michael born shortly after they moved in. Ellie was a devoted Mother of two who was a stay-at-home Mom and participated in all her kid's activities.

When the kids were older, she then went on to work at Strawbridge and Clothier at the Christiana Mall when they opened in 1978 in the fine linens department until they were sold in 1996 when she retired. During some of those years she cared for her beloved husband, Ken, who eventually passed away in 1994. In 1996 the first of her three granddaughters was born and she adored them all. They were her new meaning of life, and she became part of their lives most everyday all throughout the almost 30 years later.

Gran, as most knew her as when the grandkids came along, loved the beach, especially Stone Harbor and Avalon NJ and made many memories with her family. Gran was well known throughout the schools of her granddaughters with the parents, teachers and their friends. Everyone loved Gran which showed at the many birthday parties we had to celebrate her all those years, and everyone loved to come. Her laugh and smile were contagious, and her heart was full of love for her family. She will be missed immensely by everyone that was fortunate to have known her.

Besides spending time with her family Gran loved to cheer for her Philadelphia 76ers and after a game enjoyed talking about her favorite players and how they did, especially Maxey and Embiid. She enjoyed watching her Phillies and watched most all their games too.

Her Catholic faith was also a big part of her entire life and was a lifelong parishioner of St. John the Beloved where her children had attended school. Gran was also known as the Laundry Queen to those close to her because of her love of doing everyone's laundry, especially her granddaughters. At one of her birthdays one of the girl's friends who knew her well gifted her laundry detergent which was Mom's favorite gift that day.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor is predeceased by her husband F. Kenneth Jablonski, her sisters Lilian Baker, Marie McKelvey and her brothers, Edward and Joseph Pawlowicz. She is survived by her loving children Karen Black (Keith Dixon) and Michael Jablonski (Jennifer). Her grandchildren Casey, Madelyn and Allison; Sister, Carole McElhanon, and brother Charles Murphy (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews who she adored.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation at St. John The Beloved Catholic Church, 907 Milltown Rd, Wilmington DE 19808, on Friday, April 10th, 2026, from 11:00am - 12:00pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm. Entombment at All Saints Cemetery will be private.
