Obituary

Edward Charles "Charlie" Young, age 76, of Pike Creek, Delaware passed away peacefully on July 8, 2023.

Charlie was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Ann Bahrke and Edward F. Young. He graduated from Salesianum High School, class of 1964. After high school he went on to join the Army/National Guard where he served for two years. He spent much of his career as an auto mechanic. He was also part owner of "Upstate Outfitters" in upstate New York where he was also the tour guide.

Charlie had several passions and hobbies. He loved vacationing with his family in Wildwood, New Jersey as well as touring the east coast. Charlie had a heart for animals of all kinds, especially for his own pets over the years. Charlie was masterscout leader for a troop of scouts with Downs Syndrome.  His leadership earned the first Eagle badge for troops with special needs. Charlie was a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan, as well as following several University of Delaware sports teams. Charlie's most cherished hobby was fishing. He was an expert fisherman. His gift and skills were known by many both in competition and casually on a warm summer day, relaxing on his boat, being cradled by the waves.

Other than his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his youngest daughter Shannon K. Young, and his sister Geraldine Bevenour. Charlie is survived by his loving wife Debbie Young, daughters Kelly J. Young and Kathleen A. Bennett, sister Barbara Cronin, and grandchildren Michael Bennett and Hayden (Booter) Bennett, and ex-wife Linda Young. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services will be private for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations to cancer and leukemia research is appreciated.
