Edward Joseph Wierzbicki, Age 74, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at home on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Born in New Castle, Delaware, Eddie was the son of the late Edward F. and Linda R. (Fusco) Wierzbicki.Eddie was a Master Plasterer, apprenticing in the 1960s under his uncle, Anthony Fusco and became Business Agent for Plasterers' Local Union 38 in the early 1970s. His craftsmanship can be seen in the restoration work in Winterthur and Hagley Museums, Longwood Gardens, and Historic New Castle's Immanuel Episcopal Church, among many others. After his trade was replaced by the use of new materials, he became a Commercial Painter for The Concord Group, and then The Buccini/Pollin Real Estate Group, retiring on disability, after his diagnosis of lung cancer, in August 2013.Eddie's world revolved around his family and dear friends. Just as his beloved late wife, Elisabeth Conrad Wierzbicki, Eddie was the most loving, generous, and supportive parent and grandparent. Together they made a welcoming home filled with love and laughter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and crabbing, was well-read, with interests in Military history, Native American culture, and the natural world; but was most happy being at home, in his recliner, with a cup of coffee, and the TV remote in hand. He was quick to forgive, hysterically funny, and always ready to help anyone in need.Edward is survived by his children, Gregory E. Wierzbicki, Rita C. Wierzbicki, and his wife's son, Dr. C. Conrad DiMichele, and his wife, Brenda; five grandchildren, Steven G. Wierzbicki, Lisa Belford, Andrew DiMichele, Wendy Burris and Patrick DiMichele; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grand-children. He is also survived by his siblings; Linda R. Talley, Vincent, Henry (Elaine), Dennis (Eileen), Stanley (Rebecca), Claire Mattei (Gary), Michael, and Anna Ruether (James); his uncle, Walter Wierzbicki; his sister-in-law, Irene C. Davis, of Gray Court, South Carolina, many cousins, nephews and nieces, and the Skilling/Robinson and Phillips families. In addition to his wife and parents, Eddie was predeceased by his brothers, John (Vicky survives) and Francis (Mary survives); his wife's daughter, Marilee DeStefano, and her husband, Francis; his sister-in-law, Helon C. Sines, his nephew, Preston Sines, and his niece, Dale Black. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Delaware Hospice, especially Ed's "buddy", Michael, and his nurse, Beth; along with Linda, Andrea and Sharon; Dr. Andrew L. Himelstein, for his wonderful care over the past two years, as well as to Dana, Michele, Crystal, and the rest of the staff of Medical Oncology Hematology Consultants for their kind assistance; to all of the nurses, therapists and staff at Cadia Rehabilitation in Pike Creek; Christiana Hospital Emergency Care and Hospital; Michele, with Christiana Visiting Nurses; his longtime and dear physician, Dr. Remedios Abad, and later, for his care under Singson Medical Group; to the ever-compassionate pharmacists and staff at the Shop-Rite Pharmacy in Stanton; Five Points Fire Company; to his last employer, BPG Real Estate, especially, Tom Ptomey, Deborah Cotterall, Ralph Rossi and Michele Kirby, for their continued assistance, as well as, Jim Blackburn and Barbara Kasper, for their continued concern; and last, but not least, our family, friends and neighbor-friends, who were here to always provide love, support and assistance.As difficult as it was to not share together in a celebration of our dear father's life, we have honored our father's request of not holding public or private services. As always, he just wanted to make life easier for all of us, and was laid to rest, alongside his Elisabeth, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Wounded Warrior Project, Delaware Hospice, your local police department, and/or to your local volunteer fire department.
