On September 25, 2024 Jan passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Jan was born February 1, 1948 to the late Edward and Veronica Swarter. He was also predeceased by his brother, Richard Swarter, and grandson, Connor Edward Swarter. Jan is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jerry; daughters, Laurie Mathew and Lynn Swarter; son, Stephen (Dawn) Swarter; grandchildren, Andrew and Michael Swarter, Zach Baranowski (Megan), Haley Mathew; and great grandchildren, Harmony Swarter and Easton Baranowski. In his lifetime, Jan was an all around athlete most memorable being an outstanding football player for Salesianum where he wore the number 27. Jan enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and was a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. Jan's favorite pastime was collecting all things, old and new. Above all else, Jan was a family man, if you needed help he was there for you.

A visitation for Jan will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 10-11:30 am, with funeral services following at 11:30am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
