Edward R. Stevens, "Eddie", age 97, of Stanton, DE, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

Born in Wilmington, DE on October 21, 1925, Eddie was the son of the late Wilmer Henry Stevens and Blanche Hilyard Stevens. His high school education was interrupted in 1943 while he was a senior at Conrad High School. He was drafted and entered the Navy in World War II serving on Saipan. Eddie worked at the GM Plant on Boxwood Road for 31 years, primarily as a welder and body shop technician, retiring in 1978. Eddie enjoyed wood working and loved a "fixer upper" project. He enjoyed University of Delaware football and was an avid Nascar fan. Eddie enjoyed traveling with his wife of 73 years, Ann and was a member of the USN Memorial VFW Post 3420 in Newark, DE and the Local 435 UAW.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, William H. Stevens. Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Ann Riley Stevens; his children and their spouses, Richard and Penny Stevens and Mary K. and Bill LaRue; grandchildren, Andrea Stevens, Peter (Caitlin) Stevens, and Melissa LaRue; great grandchild, Spencer; sister, Elsie J. Megonigal; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 from 10:00-11:00AM followed by funeral services at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.
