Age 83, of Wilmington, DE and Pine Knoll Shores, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Compassionate Care Hospice surrounded by his loving family.Born in Winchester, MA, Ned was the son of the late Alice (Okerholm) and Edward P. Moore, Sr. A graduate of Tufts University, he was a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. He served his country proudly in the US Army Corps of Engineers. He worked as a chemical engineer at Hercules for 35 years then retired from Montel. Professionally, he authored several technical engineering books including The Polypropylene Handbook, which was translated into several languages and used worldwide in industry and academia. With his wife, he was a co-founder and inaugural president of the first Montessori School at Ursuline Academy and together they were involved in establishing Resurrection Parish. His other affiliations included the Italian Culture Club, the chorus of the Brandywine, barbershop quartet and other choir groups. He and his wife enjoyed worldwide travel, most especially to Italy to visit his close friend and mentor Paulo Galli.In addition to his parents, Ned was predeceased by his siblings, John and Marie. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 58 years, Georgene (Barinas) Moore; three sons and a daughter, Edward P. III and wife Carla of Landenberg, PA, Daniel and wife Veda of Greenville, North Carolina, a daughter Grace Moore of Wilmington, DE, and youngest son Matthew and wife Suzy of Golden, CO; and five grandchildren.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday August 30th at 11:15 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Visitation for family and friends will immediately precede the Mass at 10:00 at St. Mary's. Interment is private.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Ned's name to Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Francis Hospital or to the Sages at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
