Edward F. DeJong "Ed" passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Ed was born in Wilmington, DE he was the first of four children of the late Mary (VanVeen) and Adrian DeJong. Ed graduated from the Salesianum School and went on to receive his bachelors degree from St. Edwards University in Austin, TX. After graduating from college, Ed went on to serve our nation honorably in the U.S Navy. After returning home from the service, Ed began working as a Material Scientist for multiple companies before retiring. Ed was a member of the Society of Plastics Engineering, and the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (SAMPE), where he had held various executive and board roles for the local SAMPE chapter. Ed's faith meant a lot to him as he was an active parishioner at St. Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church, where he actively volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul Society and the parish soup kitchen. Ed was also a frequent donator at the Blood Bank of Delaware where he was recognized for his numerous contributions. In his free time, Ed enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Ed and Diane enjoyed their cottage on Shin Pond in Mt. Chase, Maine. Many great memories and good times were made "at their camp."
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his loving wife, Diane Rae DeJong; and nephew, Ryan DeJong. Ed is survived by his sisters and their spouses, Joanne DeJong (Samuel) of Chesapeake City, MD; and Terry Lynch (Mark) of Nice, France; brother and his spouse, Adrian DeJong (Karen) of Wilmington, DE along with two nieces, Alexandra Lynch, and Sarah Eggleston; and numerous cousins whom he all loved.
Funeral Services for Ed will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Ed's name to St Vincent dePaul Society at St Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church, 2431 Frazer Rd, Newark, DE 19702.
