Obituary

Dr. Glory Anne Sandberg (née Busby), loving mother, loyal friend, and dedicated professional, passed away at her home surrounded by her children on Saturday, November 26, 2022.  Glory was born in 1937 in Denver, CO to Major and Virginia Busby.  She earned her Bachelors degree in nursing in 1959.  After marrying Russell L. Sandberg in 1962, she enrolled in medical school and graduated in June of 1971.  While attending medical school and completing her residency in clinical pathology, she had four children - in a time when a professional woman working full time and raising a family was rare.  She was exceptionally devoted to the development of her children to become driven, educated, and deeply empathic people.

After her divorce from Russell and completion of her Pathology Residency, she relocated her family from Concord, CA to Wilmington, DE where she took a position on the medical staff at the Wilmington Veterans Administration Hospital in Elsmere, DE.  She worked there for 20 years, eventually rising to the position of Division Chief of Pathology.  She retired from the VA in June of 2002, and continued to work locum tenens as a pathologist.

Glory traveled widely abroad, and frequently visited her far-flung children and grandchildren.  She loved to garden, to read, to attend the symphony, and, particularly, to attend the opera.  She was an ardent fan and supporter of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She loved sharing her love of music with her children and grandchildren.

Glory was predeceased by her son, Kurt, and her sister, Rosemary.  She is survived by her children Dr. Warren Sandberg, Jason Sandberg, and Eden Venti; her siblings Alice Miracle and John Busby; and her 8 grandchildren.

Glory believed that someone is never truly dead if she is remembered by those left behind.  She would counsel everyone to remember those they have loved and lost.  Write down and pass along the memories and the stories to younger family and friends so that they too can remember.

Finally, she wished to share this verse with everyone she loved:

When I come to the end of the day,

And the sun has set for me,

I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.

Why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little, but not too long

And not with your head bowed low.

Remember the love we once shared.

Miss me, but let me go.

For this is a journey we all must take,

And each must go alone.

It's all part of the maker's plan,

A step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart

Go to the friends we know,

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

Miss me, but let me go.

In lieu of flowers, Glory asks that you make a contribution to your local food bank.
