Obituary

Dr. Gina Marie Harrison, 60, of Newark, Delaware passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital surrounded by her family. Gina was born in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Joy DeBenedictis and the late Joseph M. Squillace. She graduated from St. Catherine of Sienna Grade School, St. Mark's High School, St. Joseph's University, and achieved both her Masters and Doctorate degrees from Wilmington University. Gina began chasing her passion as an educator, beginning at Terry Children's Psychiatric Center, Jaco's Preschool, and finally establishing a preschool of her own, with her husband Jim, The Lane Day School, where she touched the hearts of many children for 16 years. Gina eventually took her experience as an educator to the college level, where she was an adjunct professor at Wilmington University. At the same time, she turned her direction to children with special needs as a Behavioral Specialist Consultant, something she knew best. Multi-tasking and taking on several significant endeavors were a specialty of Gina's, and one of her best qualities, as she did so with ease and tenacity. She touched many lives and helped establish foundations for future generations of learners. Gina will be dearly missed by her husband of 40 years, James F. Harrison; her sons, Jimmy and his fiancée, Alexis Price of Wilmington; Michael and his wife, Kelly of Downingtown, PA; her daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Phil Gordon of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Mikey, Jay, and Cooper; her mother, Joy DeBenedictis of Landenberg, PA; her brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Chrissy Squillace of Wilmington; her sisters and their husbands, Lisa and Bruno Casale of Landenberg and Joleen and Jim Barstow of Chattanooga, TN and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 9:30am at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702. There will be no viewing and burial will be private. A live stream of the Mass can be viewed below on Thursday.
