Obituary

Douglas V. Mullally of Mill Creek died Sunday after a brief illness, leaving behind him a life filled with laughter and love that will be cherished by the many people his spirit touched.

Kind and thoughtful to all he met, cheerful and positive to friends new and old, Doug truly never met a stranger on his lifelong travels, one that took him from his birthplace in upstate New York to the West Coast and finally to Delaware, where he lived with beloved wife of 37 years Katherine B. Mullally.

For years, Doug's expertise as a union pipefitter opened opportunities around the country, including his work at Cherne Industries as industrial job superintendent. He also worked in Southern California, San Francisco, Reno, Ohio, Florence, S.C., and Philadelphia before retiring in 2009.

Born in Jeffersonville, N.Y., on July 14, 1947, Doug would become an Eagle scout and attend Manlius Military School. His family loved to hear tales of his days working at the first Woodstock music festival, where he would shuttle doctors from the helipad through farm fields to the festival itself.

Born to Winifred L Mullally and Vincent Mullally in Jeffersonville, Doug's love and spirit touched many family members, including siblings Tim and Helen Mullally; Coleen Mullally Visco; Brian and Sue Mullally; and Michael and JoAnn Mullally. He is also survived by his children, Sean, Brendan, Josie, and Vince; and his stepchildren, Katherine Williamson, Rebecca Ruth, Laura Holland, and Grace McLaughlin.

He will especially be missed by his six grandchildren, including Grace Holland, whom Doug cared for and happily accompanied to parks, museums and seemingly endless swim meets, where he stood tall and proud at everything she accomplished.

A visitation for Douglas will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 2 to 3 PM with a memorial service following at 3 PM. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Douglas's name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, PO Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741 (michaeljfox.org)
