Doris Starr Hanby, born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 14, 1928, peacefully entered eternal rest in her sleep on January 8, 2024, at the age of 95. She was surrounded by the love of her family.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Winfield Starr and Elizabeth Caroline (Hoffman) Starr, her beloved husband Robert, son John, infant daughter Susan, and her sisters, Mrs. Ruth Smith, Mrs. Dorothy Mearns, Mrs. Gene Singley, Mrs. Elizabeth Johsnon, Mrs. Shirley Morgan, her identical twin, Mrs. Evelyn Worley, and Mrs. Marjorie Marsh.

She is survived by her son, Robert Jr (Janice), and her grandchildren, Stacey Gant (Graham), Danielle Hanby, Zachary Hanby (Christine), Rachel Hagy (Shaun), Joshua Hanby, along with 15 great-grandchildren.

Doris and Robert, the love of her life for 51 years, were pillars in the community, dedicating themselves to various organizations such as the Grange, the Friends of Brandywine Springs, Second Baptist (Silverside) Church, volunteering for the LPGA Championships, and working at the Resettler's Resale Shop. Doris was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Known for her captivating stories about her childhood and life on the Starr family farm, Doris had a special gift for bringing the past to life. Her home was a haven for family and friends, where she watched over children, hosted parties, and delighted in the joy of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often enjoying pool days and scenic drives around the countryside.

A devoted grandmother, Doris found immense joy in her role, showering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love. Her legacy will forever be woven into the fabric of family gatherings, laughter, and the enduring bonds she nurtured.
