Doris Louise Carey, age 95, of Newark, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

Doris was born in Millington, MD, daughter of the late Grace H. (Neal) and James F.  Hurlock. She graduated high school and attended Goldey Beacom College. Doris worked as a teacher's assistant in the Christiana School District for over 15 years until her retirement. In her free time, Doris enjoyed arts and craft projects, sewing, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.

Doris is survived by her loving husband, Carlton Russell Carey; sons, James (Jim) and Carlton (Carl) Carey; daughter, Tammy Lea Amos; grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica Carey; great grandchildren, Tabitha, Catherine, Violet, Isiah, Nathaniel, and Olivia Carey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends whom she all loved.

A visitation for Doris will take place on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 10:30 to 11:30am, with a memorial service following at 11:30am. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Doris's name to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org).
