Obituary

Dorene A. Mallon, 64, of Wilmington, Upper Eastside, New York, and Dewey Beach Delaware, died peacefully at MSK hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends on December 6, 2023.

Dorene was born on October 5, 1959, in the Bronx, New York to the late Charles Mallon and Mary Irene (Dunne) Mallon. Dorene graduated from John Dickinson High School, the University of Delaware with a degree in business administration and Columbia University with her MBA. Following her education, Dorene began a successful career in banking. Throughout the course of 30 years, she excelled in various roles, including senior vice president and managing director positions in foreign currency sales and trading. Her career evolved with positions at Citibank, Barclays, HSBC, WESTPAC and BNY Mellon. Throughout her career, Dorene was greatly respected for her work ethic, camaraderie, and integrity; her kindness, positive attitude, and willingness to always lend a helping hand. These are all hallmarks of her caring nature. Dorene served as a volunteer in the University of Delaware's Lerner Executive Mentoring Program after she retired from banking. She was a mentor and a role model for many.

Dorene had a passion for traveling, having visited over 80 countries throughout her lifetime. Even throughout her illness, she continued to visit Ireland, Florida, and Delaware, where she graciously embraced the help, support, and love of her family and friends. She loved her second home Dewey Beach, where she spent many annual family vacations. Dorene had a value and love of family and will be dearly missed by those closest to her.

Dorene was most recently challenged by the diagnosis of stage four pancreatic cancer. She was diagnosed over two years ago and she managed her illness in her inimitable, dignified and practical own way. Dorene's cancer team led by Dr. O'Reilly at MSK and her own positive attitude, allowed her to fight the good fight for longer than anyone thought possible.

Dorene is survived by her brothers, James Mallon, Charles "Chip" Mallon and his wife, Linda; her nieces and nephews, Catie Bermudez (Jason), James Mallon (Elizabeth), Eric Mallon (Meghan) Charlie Mallon, Megan Mallon, and Matthew Mallon; her great nieces and nephews, Elena, Ben, Diego, Tripp, Lucy, Tommy, and Charlotte.
