Donald M. Whitten, age 71, of Bear, DE passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024. He will be sorely missed.

Donald was the son of the late Mathilda (Rose) and Donald S. Whitten of Bear.  In his younger years, he enjoyed helping his father with their dairy/poultry farm and received accolades and awards for his prized show cattle. As he grew older, his passion was salt water fishing.

He was an avid fisherman and loved fishing in the Delaware inlet and beaches, along with taking annual trips to the Outer Banks town of Nags Head, NC for salt water fishing fun and competitions. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his lifelong fishin' buddies. Donald was a wealth of knowledge, a weatherman more accurate than any professional, a human GPS and an amateur Delaware historian.

Donald is survived by his brother, R. Craig Whitten; sisters, Marilyn W. Bryant and M. Liz Ruane; and he took great pride in the accomplishments of his numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service for Donald will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 3pm, at the home of Craig Whitten. For futher details, please contact Mealey Funeral Homes.
