Age 83, of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Seasons Hospice Center.Born in Newark, NJ, to the late Frank Leslie and Lillian (Post) Rooksby, Donald proudly served in the US Army, providing weather forecasting support during the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, three Bronze Medals, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was an active volunteer with The AmVets Ambulance Corps. He worked for Westinghouse in Newark NJ. Later, he resided in Neptune, NJ and worked at a surveying and engineering firm in Howell, NJ. Throughout his life, he was very active at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Neptune, NJ, serving as head usher. He recently became a member of St. Catherine of Siena in Wilmington, DE. He resided at Windsor Place (Brookdale Community) in Hockessin, DE, where he made many friends and benefited from the wonderful and attentive care of the staff.He was predeceased by his parents and his sister-in-law, Joan Lee Rooksby. He is survived by his brother Harold F. Rooksby and his wife, Adrienne of Naples FL and Woodstock, MD. He is also survived by his six nieces and their spouses, Carol and Joe Backer, Joanne and Paul Rhoades, Nancy and Tony Eksterowicz, Mary Kay and Tom Stirparo, Margaret Rooksby, and Leslie and Jesse Beal; as well as one great niece and six great nephews.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 13th at 11 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2505 Centerville Road, Wilmington where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.The family would like to thank the staff and administration of Windsor Place for the care and kindness they provided to Donald these last few years, and the saff of Seasons Hospice for the skilled and compassionate care given during the final week of Donald's life.
