Donald Robert Roberts, age 76, of Newark, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

Donald was born in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Alice (Bryan) and Robert Roberts. Donald graduated from Palmyra-Macedon high school and served our nation honorably in the U.S Army where he had the opportunity to travel across Europe. After returning from the service, Donald went on to receive an associate degree from Goldey Beacom and work as a reinsurance coordinator for Nationwide, formerly Continental American Life Insurance Company, until his retirement. In his younger years, Donald was an avid pool and ping pong player. In his free time, Donald enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and rooting on his beloved Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and the University of Delaware Blue Hens. Donald also loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandkids. In addition to his parents, Donald was also predeceased by his sister, Joyce Steele.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rose (Opalach) Roberts; son, Ryan Roberts and his partner, Melissa Verucci; grandchildren, Adam and Lorraine Roberts; brother, Ronald Roberts; sister-in-law Mathilda Roberts; sister, Mary Louise Warren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends whom he all loved.

A visitation for Donald will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE, 19808, where family and friends may call from 11AM to 12PM, with a Celebration of Life following at 12PM. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Donald's name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the American Heart Association.
