Diane R. Mavity
Welsh
January 29, 1945 – May 15, 2025
Diane Ruth Mavity Welsh made her way to heaven peacefully on Thursday, May 15, surrounded by the love of her family. She was determined and fiercely independent until she suffered a stroke, which led to a steady decline in her health. She was the daughter of Walter and Helen (Holloway) Mavity, born January 29, 1945, in Richland, Washington. Diane was raised in Wilmington, DE after her father was transferred with the duPont Company. Diane was very proud to have graduated from Conrad High School and so happy to have attended her 60th Class Reunion last fall. She said that being there and seeing so many of her classmates was, "like my birthday and Christmas combined."
Diane lived in Delaware, Kentucky and Florida before moving back "home" to Delaware in 2016. She moved to Newark Manor at that time and she loved everyone and everything about this wonderful place she called home. Diane was always the first to be ready to play bingo. She had her special cards and found them to be very lucky. She loved tai chi classes, story time with Lois, church services, Bible Study, basking in the sun in the courtyard, game time, puzzles, and she never wanted to miss a Happy Hour!
In her final months when her speech was impacted by the stroke, she sometimes struggled to communicate, but she could always say, "I love you," and she told everyone she loved them…because she did!
Diane is survived by her sister, Martha Mavity McDonough. They shared a unique commitment to each other and rarely missed the opportunity to take a walk, chat on the phone, and spend time together each day. Diane is also survived by her brothers, Richard Mavity (Carole) and Bill Mavity (Linda), her nieces, Julie Fausnaugh (Craig), Katie Ricevuto (Chris), Lindsay Spada (Nick), Laura Mavity (Pete Halmos), Meghan Mavity, Donna Mavity, and grandnieces and grandnephews, Katie, Emma, Maddy, Lauren, Luke, Dominic, Caroline and Aidan.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her brother-in-law Martin B. McDonough, her sister-in-law Becky Mavity, and her nephew Ted Mavity.
Diane's family would like to acknowledge the incredibly kind, compassionate and loving care she received at Newark Manor. Each person gave of themselves from their heart, which translated into pure love and goodness. There are too many to list, but you all are angels on earth and we will always love and appreciate each way you showed your love to Diane. No act of kindness is ever wasted! We are eternally grateful!
