Obituary

Diane M. LearyAge 84, wife of the late Daniel J. Leary, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 surrounded by her family at Christiana Care in Wilmington after a brief illness. Diane, and her twin sister, Dolores, were born in Everett, Washington to the late Franklin and Margaret (Ross) Farra. Diane was a graduate of West Chester (Pa) High School and the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she was trained to be an exceptional nurse. She worked in the General Division, the Delaware Division, and finally retired from Christiana Care to become Grand-D to her grandchildren. Grand-D enjoyed spending time with her family, especially at the beach, challenging computer programs, traveling, and "talking" politics. She looked forward to her annual trip to Williamsburg, VA for the Grand Illuminations, the official kick-off to the Christmas season, with her daughters and granddaughters. Diane will be dearly missed by her daughters, Kimberly Leary, Dana Smulski and her boyfriend, Mike McCluskey, grandchildren, Danielle N., Robert, Jr. and Kevin D. Smulski (fiance Rachel Latham), Zach and Drew Richmond and his girlfriend Anna, and Morgan McGovern. She is also survived by twin great-granddaughters, Mia and Missy Smulski, in addition to a host of wonderful and beloved nieces, nephews, and good friends. Diane encouraged us all to spread our wings, to enjoy each day to the fullest, and left detailed instructions for us to celebrate her life. Sláinte, may you know nothing but happiness from this day forward!Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday evening, May 3rd 6PM to 7:30 PM at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads, where services will begin at 7:30.
