Dewey MacArthur Cowan, age 83, of Newark, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Dewey was born in Robertsdale, PA, son of the late Miriam (Gracey), James Cowan, and step mother Thelma Cowan. Dewey graduated from high school and served our nation honorably in the U.S Air Force. After returning from the service, Dewey went on to become a Service & Sales representative of General Motors in the Buick Motor division until his retirement. In his free time, Dewey enjoyed hunting, gardening, cooking, cheering on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers, traveling with his wife, Joanne, and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Dewey was predeceased by his son, Matthew David Cowan; brothers, Sidney Cowan and Terry Cowan; and sister, Naomi Cojito.

Dewey is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joanne H. Cowan; sons, Chuck and Jim Cowan; grandchildren, Emily and Sarah; sisters, Vonna Godsoe and Deborah Coe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends whom he all loved.

Funeral services for Dewey will be held privately.
