Dennis J. Vickery, Sr. " Hutch", 62 of Wilmington, my best friend and husband of 41 years went to be with our Lord on August 18, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.Hutch was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Pauline Ann (Connell) and Ora (Big O) Vickery, Sr. In addition to his parents, Hutch was predeceased by his brother, John. He graduated from St. Elizabeth High School and attended the University of Delaware, majoring in Physical Education. He worked for the Department of Parks and Recreation for 20 years, worked in construction and coached many youngsters in basketball, many of whom became lifelong friends. He touched many peoples' lives throughout his life with each one having a special story to remember him by. When he came ill, he was proud that his daughter was by his side throughout his entire journey with cancer; attending every appointment for support.One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren and routing for the Boston Celtics. In addition to the Boston Celtics, he loved watching horse races, especially at Delaware Park.He is survived by his wife, Darla Kay; his daughter Danielle Zeszut (John); his sons, Dennis Jr. and Daniel Vickery; his brother, Ora (Diane); his 7 grandchildren, Jocelyn (Jolly Bird), Bailey, Braiden, Kayla, Kaitlyn, Danny and Audrianna; his great granddaughter, Novalee and his best friend, Kevin Kelley.Friends may call on Monday evening from 5 to 8 PM at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, Clayton and Cedar Streets. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery.
