On August 5, 1953, Debra was born in Savannah, Georgia to Willie Daughtry and Vonnie Lee Daughtry. Debra attended her school years in Savannah, Georgia. She soon left Savannah and moved to Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia she went to nursing school and became a private duty nurse for several years. Later in her life, Debra moved to Pottstown, PA, and began her journey into community work and working with children. She was an employee of Pottsgrove Lower Elementary School as a teacher's aide. At this time, Debra also volunteered for many positions in the Rolling Hills community center such as handling the food bank, Christmas gift program, and meals on wheels summer lunch. The Salvation Army was her next quest in community work. She managed the Salvation Army Christmas drive for several years while also volunteering in the soup kitchen. Debra then set her eyes on an amazing experience. Being the head cook and caretaker of WoodRock Camp, she and her husband cared for the camp for almost a decade. Before retiring, Debra took on one more job and that was cooking for the people at the Salvation Army shelter. She dearly loved meeting new people and having new experiences along her journey. Preceding her in death are; father, Willie Daughtry; mother, Vonnie Lee Daughtry; husband, William Ronald Lacey, Sr.; brothers, Willie Albert Daughtry, Herald Daughtry, Larry Daughtry and Ricky Daughtry; sisters, Beatrice Griffin, Ollie Mae Morrison, and Cheryl Daughtry; and son Kevin Harley Sr. She leaves behind to mourn 7 children, William Ronald Lacey, Jr., Damon Lacey, Stephen Harley, Desmond Lacey, Vonnie Lacey, Lakitra Burton (Ronald Burton), and Valarie Snell (Keith Snell); 3 brothers, James Alvin Daughtry, Tyrone Daughtry (Debbie Daughtry), CW Daughtry; and extended family including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, close friends, and her church family. We will remember Debra for always saying a prayer and being a God-fearing woman. She loved selling cakes and pies for the church's bake sale and would not leave until the table was empty. She also enjoyed feeding the homeless and giving to others in their time of need. Debra was always ready to give a prayer to anyone who needed it. She had a heart as big as the universe. She was a mentor to many and was loved dearly. A visitation will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808, on Saturday December 11th from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. with funeral services beginning at 12 P.M. Burial will be held privately.
