David Joseph Smith, 72, passed away on Aug 4, 2021 as a result of complications following a serious accident.
He was born in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Harold W. Smith Sr. and Sara Jane (McGovern) Smith.
A graduate of the Salesianum School and Widener University, he was a member & retired as a Journeyman/Master Electrician with the I.B.E.W. /Local313 for 48 years, and served in the DE Air National Guard from 1966-1972. He was a man of multiple interests and talents especially his gardens, travel, history, learning about different cultures, plus a lifelong love of photography. People, land, sea or sky, if he could "get a picture" it made the experience worthwhile. Active memberships included K of C (4th degree) at the Santa Maria Council, DE Orchid Society, Tri-State Highrailers (which brought many special friendships), and the T.C.A. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Harold W. and Adele; son-in-law, Harold Taylor; daughter-in-law, Anne Colinco; and brother-in-law Francis Sammons.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eileen Corrigan-Smith; daughter, Annemarie Taylor of Mathias, WV; son, David of Mathias, WV; sister, Anne (Nancy) Sammons of Wilmington, DE; and a host of nephews and nieces.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug 21, 2021 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldon Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803 where friends and family may call from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial starting at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, 1528 Ashland Clinton School Rd, Hockessin DE 19707.
In lieu of flowers/plants it is requested donations in David's name be given to Sojourner's Place, 2901 Governor Printz Blvd., Wilmington, DE 19802 or IHM Church Outreach at the address listed above.
