David Leroy "Sticker"
Hotchkiss
April 28, 1941 – January 24, 2023
David Leroy "Sticker" Hotchkiss, age 81 of Landenberg, PA, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2023.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y. on April 28th, Dave was the middle son of Marion and Afton Hotchkiss and brother to Robert (Sue) and John (Helen). After spending the early years upstate, the family moved to Wilmington, DE, where he attended Salesianum High School, graduating in 1959. He joined the DuPont Company, working for over 30 years in Fibers Marketing, where he enjoyed traveling extensively in Europe, Latin and South America until his retirement.
Dave served his country in the Delaware Air National Guard as an Aerospace Propulsion Technician with the 166th MXS (Maintenance Squadron) and retired as a Master Sergeant (MSgt) after 36 years. He had a long connection throughout his life with the water, whether it was the years he spent beneath it up and down the East coast with his scuba club, on it boating and fishing with family and friends, or near it just relaxing on the beach with a book and a cooler. If you didn't find him spending time with his grandsons, working on one of the many endless projects in and around the house, or catching a couple races at Delaware Park, odds are he was having something to eat and sharing laughs with friends at Feby's.
In addition to his parents, Dave was predeceased by his brother, Robert Hotchkiss. He will be dearly missed by his brother John, sons Derek Hotchkiss (Tamie) and Brian Hotchkiss (Amber), his grandchildren, the source of his pride and joy, Jakob, Devon, Nathan and Gavin Hotchkiss, and in-laws James and Linda Uniatowski .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 1st at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 200 E Main St, Newark, DE 19711. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association.
