Haney
August 30, 1947 – November 1, 2025
David P. Haney, age 78, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Kutz Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Wilmington, David was the son of the late Pauline (Mahoney) and George Haney. He was a proud graduate of St. Edmond's Academy and Salesianum School. Following his education, David enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with the DuPont Company, from which he retired, before continuing to work for VWR and Mealey Funeral Home.
A man deeply rooted in faith and community, David was a longtime parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. He dedicated countless hours volunteering at St. Anthony of Padua Grade School, the Italian Festival, and Padua Academy. David was also a devoted member of the Irish Culture Club of Delaware and was especially active in the Knights of Columbus, where he was a member of the Pope Pius X council, member of the Bishop Mardaga Assembly in the 4th degree, current member of Bishop Monaghan Council, and served as a former State Deputy.
Family was the center of David's life. He found great joy in attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and celebrating their achievements. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and steadfast devotion to those he loved.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Helen (Kaminski) Haney, and her children; his daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Thomas and Allison (Dennis) Leizear; his grandchildren, Alexandra (Michael) Thomas and Nathan (Erica) Thomas; his brother, Chuck (Janice) Haney; his nieces, Megan (Steve) Yash and Shea (Devin) Canup; his nephew, Matthew (Mary) Haney; and his great-niece and great-nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Kutz Rehabilitation and Nursing Home for the excellent care they provided to David.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 901 N Dupont St, Wilmington, DE 19805 on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 11:30AM following a visitation from 10:00AM - 11:30AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Cemetery, 10 Old Church Rd, Wilmington, DE 19807.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Delaware State Council, 135 Princeton Avenue Claymont, DE 19703.
