David A.
Chin-A-Loy
March 29, 1936 – February 26, 2026
David Anthony Chin-A-Loy, 89, of Wilmington, Delaware, died on February 26, 2026.
Born in Guyana in 1936, David was one of thirteen children born to James Chin and Ngui Tong Keow. His roots began with the New Building Society in his homeland, but his career with AIG eventually led his family on a life-changing move to Delaware in 1972.
David possessed a truly enterprising spirit. A versatile businessman, he successfully owned and managed a used car dealership and a computer business. His career also took him to Mississippi to work with Lamar Life, but his heart always remained with his family. In 2000, he retired and returned to Wilmington, ensuring his golden years were spent exactly where he wanted to be: surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Above all, David was a devoted husband and father known for his quick wit and a sense of humor that left everyone laughing. He was never happier than when he was on the dance floor, sweeping his beloved wife, Carol, off her feet.
His career fulfilled his deep-seated wanderlust, taking him across the globe to experience new cultures. Yet, he found equal joy in life's simpler paths. He often reminisced about crisscrossing the country in a Volkswagen Vanagon with his wife, his brother, and his sister-in-law—a journey that perfectly captured his love for travel and his dedication to those he held dear.
David's legacy lives on through his wife, Carol; his children, Keith (Angela), Colin (Heather Schiffbauer), and Sabrina (Wayne Tiedeman); and his cherished grandchildren, Courtney, Andrew, Abby, Steven (Sully), and Cassandra. He is also survived by his sisters, Marjorie Chong, Terri Ho-Fatt, and Diane Rutz. He now joins his parents and his predeceased siblings in eternal rest.
A visitation for David will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 10-11am, with a memorial service following at 11am.
