Obituary

Clement Aloysius Carney, Jr., "Buddy", 89 of Wilmington passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.

Clem was born in Wilmington, as the son of the late Ann (Gillespie) and Clement A. Carney, Sr.  He was a 1952 graduate of Salesianum School and received his Associates Degree from Goldey Beacom College. He honorably and proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard at Staten Island, NY.   Clem retired from the DuPont Company after 29 years. He was a dedicated member of St. John the Beloved Church and the Athletic Association. He was an accomplished and talented drummer and played with the HiLiters and the New Notes. In addition to his parents, Clem was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Taylor and Katherine "Kitty" Durnan.

Clem was an incredible and loving husband, father and grandfather and his family meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edie (Gaunt) Carney; his sons, Brian and Mark (Lisa Carney); his daughter, Karen; his grandchildren, Megan, Shane, Reid and Paige; his sisters, Ann Marie Donovan and Margaret "Peggy" Sharp and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
