Obituary

Christopher Alejandro ChuJoy, age 50, passed away on Friday, January 12th with his beloved mother and brother by his side. Chris fought a courageous battle with cancer and always gave of himself, even in his time of illness, offering practical insights and advice to others faced with the same challenges.

After serving in the military and graduating from Wesley College, Chris started a successful career in banking. However, over 10 years ago, he became a Paraprofessional Support Instructor--first at the Richardson Park Learning Center and then at Anna P. Mote Elementary School. Fluent in multiple languages, Chris was often able to serve as an interpreter at school events. He also enjoyed sharing his culture and food with his co-workers. Chris enjoyed his career and seeing his special needs  students grow and thrive with support, understanding, and patience. His selfless dedication to his students was appreciated by all and, in 2022, Chris earned the distinguished title of Education Support Professional of the Year.

Family was very important to Chris. He was especially close to his mother and brother, Michael. Chris was a kind soul who made friends wherever he went. He will be dearly missed by many friends, students, co-workers and his family.

He was born in Wilmington, Delaware and is predeceased by his uncles, Hugo, Mario, and Virgilio. Chris is survived by his parents, Allen and Mei Chow (Melly Chu Joy); his brother, Michael Steven Chu Joy; his paternal aunts and uncles, Adolfo, Elena (Pepe), Doris (Larry), Jorge, and Elsa; his maternal aunts and uncles, Rosa, Jorge (Pola), Juana, Tomy, and Enrique (Felicitas); and a host of cousins, dear friends, and extended family.

A visitation will be held at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808 on Saturday January 20th, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. Words of Remembrances will be held at 11 A.M.
