Obituary

Christine S. Mattern "Christy", 53 of Newark passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2016, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.Born February 3, 1963 in Portsmouth, Virginia, she was the daughter of Thelma (Richardson) and the late George L. (Buddy) Spindler. Christy was a larger-than-life personality, had a smile that could light up your world, a laugh you could listen to for hours and a heart bigger than the moon. She loved people, never met a stranger, and would offer help to anyone in need. Christy was an avid duckpin bowler and loved to watch thoroughbred horses race, both passions passed along to her from her father. Her sanctuary was at the beach. She loved the feel of the sand beneath her toes, the sound of the waves crashing on to the shore and the warmth of the sun on her face. Most importantly, she had an immense love for family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren.Christy will be dearly missed by her 3 children, Todd Spindler and his wife, Emmy of Providence, RI, Kristin Mattern and Cody Mattern, both of Newark; her grandchildren, Riley, Jaxson, Khloe, Domenico and Hunter; her mother, Thelma Spindler of Chesapeake, VA; her sister Kathy and husband, Tom Lischio of North Kingstown, RI, and her niece Lisa Brown and husband Kevin of North Kingstown, RI, and their children Connor, McKayla and Kodi.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, at 3 PM, where friends may call after 2 PM.
