Chester A. Andruskiewicz, Jr., "Chet", age 69, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Newark, DE passed away after an eight-year battle following a sudden stroke. Born in Shamokin, PA, he was the son of the late Harriett (Ciborowski) and Chester A. Andruskiewicz, Sr. Chet graduated from Mount St. Mary's College with his bachelor's degree in chemistry, the University of Delaware with his master's degree in chemistry, and had completed coursework for his PhD at the University of Delaware. He was a University of Delaware Instructor for 29 years and adjunct faculty member of the College of Graduate Studies at Jefferson, Philadelphia. In addition, he was an instructor at the School of Anesthesia at the Wilmington Medical Center in Wilmington, where he met his future wife, Barbara. Chet worked as a Project Manager at several pharmaceutical companies, including Astra Zeneca for 19 years. He also worked for Centocor, Inc in Malvern, PA, where he was awarded the Star Award and Standards of Leadership Award. Most recently, Chet worked at Human Genome Science in 2012 prior to the onset of his illness, where he played a key role in the development of resource management, and was a key member of the Joint Medical Affairs Committee Operational Team. Aside from work, Chet's true passion was swimming. Chet volunteered as a swimming official over the course of several decades. He volunteered as a YMCA Swim Official, officiating meets at the local, regional and national level, since 1986, a NCAA Swim Official since 1999, a Special Olympics Swim Official in the Delaware Games since 2001, and a high school Swim Official, officiating Delaware High School Swimming and Diving Meets and State Championships since 1994. Chet was one of only fifty people awarded the Level 3 YMCA Swim Officials Certification. In addition, he earned multiple awards for contributions to the YMCA and local Delaware schools for his volunteer work. Chet is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Andruskiewicz; his daughters and their spouses, Lisa and Doug Flint, Cherie and Mike Keenan, and Amy Andruskiewicz; his grandchildren, Gabriel, Grace, Dean, Liam, Aurora, Zephyr; his sister, Annette Werger and her husband, Dennis; his brother and sister-in-laws, Dennis and Diane Andruskiewicz, and Robert "Bobby" and Becky Andruskiewicz. A visitation will be held on Saturday July 24th from 10am to 11am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at Resurrection Parish, 3000 Videre Dr, Wilmington, DE 19808.
