Obituary

Charles F. Woodring, Jr., age 102, of Wilmington, DE passed away on January 30, 2023 at Christiana Hospital.

He was born in Forty Fort, PA on January 16, 1921, the son of Charles and Laura Woodring. Charles graduated from Forty Fort High School in 1938. For several years he worked in industry and retailing prior to entering the U.S. Army in July 1942, serving until January 1946, with service in Alaska and numerous bases in the United States. In 1943 he spent a few months in training, first at Miami Beach and then at the University of Nebraska.

After his discharge, he worked for the Veterans Administration in Wilkes-Barre, PA before enrolling at Wilkes College in 1947. After graduation in 1951, he accepted a position with the DuPont Company. Charles and his wife Christine moved to Wilmington, DE. He worked for DuPont until 1982 in accounting and various other assignments, primarily in the General Services department. During this period he was active in both Cub and Boy Scouts as treasurer and trip chairman. In 1966, he represented the DuPont Company as an advisor in the Junior Achievement program of Delaware. At other times he assisted in the United Way and departmental safety programs.

Charles was a member of the Marshallton United Methodist Church for over 60 years.

He was predeceased by his wife, Christine in 2008; sisters, Marion Nicolodi and Ruth Conklin, both from Lancaster, PA.

He is survived by sons, Charles F. Woodring, III, (Diane), Edward, and Richard Woodring; and grandsons, Charles F. Woodring, IV and Benjamin Woodring.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Marshallton United Methodist Church, 1105 Stanton Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.
