Charles Wayne Shannon

Charles Wayne Shannon, “Wayne”, age 79, of Wilmington, DE passed away on July 3rd, 2026. Born in Wilmington, DE, he was the son of the late Pearl (Sherwood) and Owen Shannon. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. Following his time in the service, he began working at the Dupont pigment manufacturing facility in Edgemoor, retiring after 33 years of service. Wayne was a dedicated father, grandfather, and husband. His greatest memories were made while spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the beach, but most importantly being present with his family.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was predeceased by his great granddaughter, Lillian Gabrielle McManus; and his siblings, Joseph, Doris, Leroy, Marie, Anne, and Bobby. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine (Episcopo) Shannon; his children and their spouses, Jolene and Sean O’Neill, Wayne and Dana Shannon, and Dominick and Sarah Shannon; his grandchildren, Kayla Elayne McManus (Jordan), Charles Wayne Shannon II, Jeremy Shannon, Noel Shannon, Sierra Shannon, Savannah Shannon, Ava Shannon, Dominick Shannon Jr., Autumn Shannon, Bethany Lorraine O’Neill, Ryan Charles O’Neill, Eric Patrick O’Neill, and Christopher Sean O’Neill; his great grandson, Colton Chopko; and his siblings, Deborah Davis (Steve) and Arzella Stewart (Winnie).

A visitation will be held on Thursday July 16th 2026 from 10 A.M to 11:30A.M. with funeral services to begin at 11:30 A.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Burial will be held privately at Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Tunnels for Towers, 2361 Hylan Boulevard Staten Island, NY 10306.
