Charles "Charlie" Richmond Seaver, age 80, of Hockessin, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 18, 2024.
Charlie was born in Boston, the son of the late Mildred Richmond and Charles William Seaver. Charlie grew up in Connecticut and Massachusetts and graduated from Needham High School. After receiving his Chemical Engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnical Institute, Charlie went to work for DuPont. Shortly after, he began his 3-year commitment in the U.S Navy including tours in Vietnam. Following his military service, he continued his 40-year career with DuPont. Charlie's family described him as a creative problem solver, an inventor, and a serial hobbyist. Charlie's hobbies included sailing, bird watching, photography, hiking, traveling, and fishing. Charlie was an especially passionate Life Master in bridge and a hosta hybridizer. Over the course of his life, Charlie enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, family, and friends and gave generously of his time and talents to his friends and community.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Allen Seaver; daughter, Melissa Lewis and her husband, Ian; son, Allen Seaver and his wife, Wendy; grandchildren, Austin Seaver, Sierra Seaver, and Cali Lewis; twin sister, Muriel Brown and her husband Ken; along with many beloved extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Limestone Presbyterian Church located at 3201 Limestone Rd. in Wilmington on Saturday, April 20th, 2024. The family will begin receiving guests at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service to start promptly at 11:00 a.m. The celebration of Charlie's life will continue with an on-site reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Charlie's name to the American Hosta Society – Delmarva Chapter.
