Charles P.
Muzzi, Jr.
November 9, 1938 – October 24, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that my sister and I must announce that on October 24th, 2022, our father, Charles P. Muzzi Jr., has passed. He was 83.
Charles was born to Charles P. Muzzi Sr. and Catherine V. (Joyce)Muzzi, on November 9, 1938 in Wilmington, Delaware. The oldest of five, he graduated from Wilmington High School in 1957 and served the United States Navy from 1957-1961. During this time, Charles married the love of his life, Joan Marie Gland in 1960, moving to Newark, Delaware, where they would raise a family and share the rest of their lives together.
Charles was a devout catholic and split his worship between his mother parish, the Cathedral of Saint Peter of Wilmington and Saint John's Holy Angels Catholic Parish of Newark, where he would devote and volunteer much of his adult life. Along with his wife, Joan, Charles gave 50 years to his community. What began as service to the Newark National Little League baseball program, he would go on to give himself fully to Holy Angels Church and their athletic association, acting as their head and as the Varsity Head Coach of their football teams. Charles' love for his wife and family is rivaled only by that of his community. He hoped to be the type of role model whose wisdom on the field might continue to serve his students long after they have left it and long after he has left them.
Charles is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan Marie (Gland) Muzzi, his son, Charles "Chip" Muzzi III, his parents, Charles Sr. and Catherine (Joyce)Muzzi, and his brother-in-law, Francis "Skip" P. Fitzpatrick.
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle M. Cline and her husband Dennis, his daughter, Catherine Mary Muzzi, and his daughter-in-law, Susan Muzzi; his grandchildren, Christopher(Jaclene), Charles IV, Jonathan, Nicholas(Sara), Patrick, Adam, Logan, and the only girl of seven, Elizabeth; his great-grandchildren, Kaylyn, Xavier, Chase, Connor, Elliana, Max, Charlotte, Christian, Brynn, Giovanni, and Korra; and his siblings, William Muzzi(Phyllis), Michael Muzzi(Eileen), Charlene Mazzarelli(Carl), Mary Catherine Fitzpatrick, and many nieces and nephews.
Charles passed peacefully in the home where he lived and loved for the greatest years of his life. He was surrounded by family.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday November 1st from 5 P.M to 8 P.M at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE.
