Obituary

Charles McMunn Heal, III, "Chuck" age 66, of Newark, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 17, 2020 after an extremely long and exhausting, but courageous and awe-inspiring battle with serious illness. Born in Wilmington, DE he was the son of the late Marilyn (Richards) and Charles McMunn Heal, Jr. He graduated from Delcastle High School and went on to work as a Welder 1st Class for Delmarva Power and was a member of the IBEW Local 1238 where he spent time as a shop steward. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially in Cape May, NJ and Fenwick Island, DE. He was an avid surf fisherman and spent countless hours on the beach. When describing Chuck, it is impossible to know where to begin. There are so many words to describe him, loving, kind, loyal, strong, compassionate, and unbelievably funny, but none of them do him justice. He was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, Pop and friend, but friend isn't exactly the right word, because if you were Chuck Heal's friend, "you were his family" and there was absolutely nothing more important to Chuck than family. He didn't have any in-laws; if you married into the family, you weren't an in-law, he counted you as a sibling, a son, a daughter, a niece, nephew or cousin. Chuck is survived by his wife of 46 years, Evelyn (Chandlee) Heal; his children and their partners, Kevin and Anabel Heal, Courtney Heal and Michael Gonzales and Charles "Chucky" and Tonya Roderick; his grandchildren, Braedon Charles Heal, Grayson Michael Heal Gonzales, Charles Jordan Roderick "CJ", and Kylie Judith Roderick; his siblings, Bonnie Heal Spear (Bill), Marilyn Heal Jones (Gary), Kim Richards Heal, Pamela Heal Gregg, and Cynthia Heal Sweringen (Larry); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 25 from 9:30am to 11:30am at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Masks required. Due to current DE COVID mandates, services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association (lung.org/donate), Alzheimer's Association (alz.org/donate) or the ASPCA (aspca.org/donate).
