Charles E. Harrison, Sr., 89, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2020. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is in the peaceful hands of God and reunited with his wife of 65 years, Bernie, whom he dearly missed.
Charles was born in Shickshinny, PA the son of the late Grace (Killian) and Charles Harrison. He was also predeceased by a brother, John K; sister, Nancy; and granddaughter, Amanda. He was a 1949 graduate of Shickshinny High School where he excelled as a trumpet player. He proudly served his country in the Air Force with training as a medic. Following his military service, Charles worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. During his retirement, Charles enjoyed his grandchildren's activities and family gatherings.
Charles was a kind and compassionate Husband, Father, PopPop, and Brother to his family. He will be missed by his daughters, Mamie Rollins of Cross Lanes, WV, Anne and Gregg Smith of Wilmington; his sons and their wives, Bub and Missy of Lewes, Jim and Gina of Newark, Jerry and Lisa of Wilmington; his grandchildren (spouses), Kristin (Andy), BJ (Kelly), Sherry (Mike), Jimmy, Adam (Christine), Jessica (Ryan), Jeffrey (Michell), Michael (Kelly), Andrew, Heather, Lori (Phil), Jared; his great-grandchildren, Tanner, Carter, Sawyer, Brady, Ryan, Noah, Miles, Bradley, Maddie, Daniel, Benjamin, Mikey, Cooper, and Jay. Also surviving are his sisters, Joyce Thompson, Jane Culver, and Patsy Schultz, from the Chicago area. In addition, Charles leaves behind many other family members across the country.
