Catherine E. Lenoir of Middletown, DE, formerly of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 19, ten days after her 97th birthday.She was born in Wilmington, DE, to the late Earl and Hannah (Kirlin) Quill. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Church and worked as a legal secretary in Wilmington. She married the late Francis X. Lenoir on February, 22, 1944. Together, they raised eight children. She was a homemaker for much of her life. In the early 1970's, she worked as secretary for a Delaware State Senator. Catherine had a quiet strength about her. She devoted her life to her family and to God. She had a beautiful voice and throughout her life, she sang at weddings, funerals and in the choir at St. Peter's Church. Her children came home from school to the sound of her voice everyday.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, William "Billy" Quill, Alice Elliott, Francis Quill, Margaret Olkowski, Thomas Quill and infant brother James Quill, son-in-law, Thomas P. Harrington, son-in-law, Horace "Buddy" Clark.She will be dearly missed by her children and their spouses, Rosemary and Rick Stewart, with whom she lived, of Middletown, DE, Marie E. Harrington of Middletown, DE, Genevieve T. and Peter Hassler of Madison, AL, Frances and W. Jeffery Heinig of Yorklyn, DE, John "Jack" G. and Colleen Lenoir of Middletown, DE, Joseph M. and Karen Lenoir of Newark, DE, Catherine E. and Thomas J. Zaucha of Johns Island, SC, and Michael F. Lenoir of Yorklyn, DE, as well as 19 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Theodore Olkowski, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Kitty LeNoir of New Castle, DE and Bess LeNoir of Bear, DE.The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice Home Healthcare nurses, especially, Shannon Wyre, who visited with our Mother for two years. Her smile and tenderness always brought joy to our Mother and to us. Also, thank you to Alyssa Regan, Music Therapist, who brought happiness to our Mother through song.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 26 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 35 E. 5th Street, New Castle, DE, where friends and family are invited to visitation after 9:00AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Catherine's memory to Heartland Hospice, 256 Chapman Road, #102, Newark, DE 19702-5417.
