Catharine "Joyce" White Hume, of Hockessin, Delaware passed away peacefully at her home on July 17, 2016. Catharine preferred to go by Joyce to her friends and family.Born on January 24, 1941, in Wilmington, Delaware she was the daughter of the late Harry Newton White and Thelma (Muller) White.Joyce graduated from Conrad High School and earned an associate's degree from Goldey Beacom College. After graduation from Goldey Beacom College, she continued to work there until her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially time spent with family at Rehoboth Beach and spent many weekends boating on the Northeast River, Chester River, and points along the Eastern Shore. More recently she enjoyed going to Rehoboth Beach and walking on the boardwalk. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, completing the Sunday crossword puzzle, bird watching, and volunteering at Red Clay Presbyterian Church. Joyce was a skilled seamstress and loved to do needlework. Joyce especially enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren and attending soccer games, dance recitals, figure skating shows, and school functions.In addition to her parents and stepfather, Harry T. Ware, Jr., Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Hume, with whom she shared 35 years of marriage.Joyce is survived by her children Christine M. O'Neal (Richard) of Bay Minette, AL, Douglas E. Hume of Dover, DE, and Andrea H. Danucalov of Landenberg, PA, and her grandchildren Thomas O'Neal, Susan O'Neal, Danielle Danucalov, and Anastasia Danucalov. Joyce is also survived by her brothers, Fred White of Oregon and Harry N. White, Jr. (Carolyn) of Millsboro, DE, and her sister in law, Sarah H. Harvey (Bruce) of Newark, DE. She is also survived by many other family members including nieces, nephews, cousins, and her aunt, Anna Carter.A memorial service will be held at 11 am on August 10, 2016 at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19808. Visitation will be prior to the memorial service at 10 am at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church.In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joyce's memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 10 W. 10th St. #209, Wilmington, DE 19801 or Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church at the address above.
