Obituary

Carol Ann Schwer, age 81, passed into eternal life to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully at home on June 8, 2023, after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Schwer, daughters, Jen Wallendorf (Randy), Rebecca Schwer (Chris Gette) and Hanna Schwer (Chris Hinde), and son, Jeremy Schwer (Christine). Carol was blessed with seven grandchildren, Amanda, Alexis, Taylor, Alexandra, Viola, Amelia, and Eli. She is also survived by sister Diane Wagner (Pete), and brothers, Paul Olson (Jane) and Doug Olson.

Carol was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on July 10, 1941, to Ervin and Ruth (Flaherty) Olson. Her family moved frequently while she was growing up. She attended high school in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, achieving a degree in primary education. After college, she taught first grade in Wausau, Wisconsin, then in Green Bay where Carol, a life-long horse lover, was finally able to buy her horse, Red. She and Dick, an engineer for Proctor & Gamble, met in Green Bay and later married on July 20, 1968. They subsequently moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, then to Newark, Delaware, where Dick worked for DuPont.

Carol was above all a wonderful wife and loving mother and grandmother. She cared deeply about people and was a loyal friend and an engaged listener. Carol was strong in her faith and an active member of her parish. Carol was also active in her community and held various posts in her neighborhood civic association. While her children were young, Carol was a Nursing Mothers Counselor. She was a vocal Green Bay Packer fan, having attended one of their first games at Lambeau field as a teenager. Carol loved music and played the piano and was blessed with a lovely singing voice. She also loved her dogs. Carol enjoyed being outside and visiting beautiful gardens throughout the Delaware Valley with her family. She enjoyed walking on the beach and collecting seashells and always looked forward to her family's annual summer week at Rehoboth Beach as an opportunity to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed collecting figurines of angels and windmills. Carol loved spending time with young children and she eventually renewed her teaching certificate to do substitute teaching in Delaware.

Carol's final days were spent at home, with the compassionate care of Delaware Hospice. The family appreciates their support.
