Carlton Russell Carey, age 94, of Newark, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

Carlton was born in Dover, DE, son of the late Mildred (Wright) and George Russell Carey. Carlton graduated from Smyrna high school and honorably served our nation in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict aboard the aircraft carrier Coral Sea. After returning from the Navy, Carlton began his 32 year career as the Lead Mechanic at Atlantic Aviation until his retirement.  In his free time, Carlton enjoyed doing home improvements, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to parents, Carlton was predeceased by his loving wife Doris Louise Carey in January 2023.

Carlton is survived by his sons, Carlton (Carl) and James (Jim) Carey; daughter, Tammy Lea Amos; grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica Carey; great grandchildren, Tabitha, Catherine, Violet, Isiah, Nathaniel Carey and Olivia Goodwin with another on the way; sister, Ruth Hollett; nephew William Carey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends whom he all loved.

A visitation for Carlton will take place on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE 19808, where friends and family may call from 11:30am to 12:30pm, with a memorial service following at 12:30pm. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.
