Beverly Ann Samson, nee Petrella, 59, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Beverly shared her birthday with her wedding anniversary, August 31, to Arnold "Arnie" Sher Samson as they celebrated 29 years of marriage. Beverly was best known for her kindness, her care, and her gentle nature. She had multiple fur babies and a small farm of ducks and chickens that she cared for. She enjoyed traveling, especially a trip to Ireland with her sister and nieces a few years ago. Beverly loved babies and could be found smiling and cuddling with the newest additions from her large Italian/Irish family. She lost her loving parents, Anthony "Tony" and Ida Petrella, nee Finley, exactly 20 years to the day apart, with the recent passing of her beloved mother on March 30, 2020. She was born and raised in McKees Rocks, PA, before moving to Wilmington, DE, and settling in Townsend, DE. Beverly worked at several banking companies while accomplishing a lifetime goal of getting her Bachelor's degree in Business from Goldey Beacom College. After she was downsized from her last job, she retired early to enjoy time with her husband and her animals. A favorite past time was to show her animals to children. She enjoyed frequent trips to Pittsburgh to visit her family. She was especially close to her brothers and sisters, most whom still live in Pittsburgh, Carol Reilly (Mike); Donald Petrella (Cindy); Linda Giampa (Vincent) of Apollo Beach, FL; Robert "Bob" Petrella (Michelle); and Michael "Mike" Petrella (Kim) of Lincoln University, PA. Beverly was also a wonderful aunt to Sherri Jak (Matt) and their children, Taylor and Alex; Brian Petrella and Daniel Petrella; Jennifer Reilly-McCardell (Sean); Heather Barr (Jon); Michael Reilly (Kelly) and their sons, Michael, James, and Nicholas; Anthony Giampa and David Giampa; Alyssa Petrella; Kristine Petrella-Zelinski (Jeff) and their daughter Alina; Tyler Petrella; and Ryan Petrella. Beverly was Godmother to many of her nieces and nephews. She was also a beloved stepmother to David Samson (Esther) of Easton, PA and grandmother to Melissa, Billy, Emily and Chris. She was also close with her in-laws, Elaine Simmons (Bruce), Leonette Doyle (Craig), Gerard Samson (Nancy) and Gerald Samson (Gina). She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Due to COVID, viewing and services will be small, but the family will welcome visitors to Mealey Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, September 6, from 2:00-3:00 for the viewing and 3:00 for the service. In lieu of flowers and to honor Beverly's love of animals, the family requests donations in Beverly's name to a favorite animal charity.
