Obituary

Betty Jane Lehane, age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Christiana Hospital.

Betty Jane was born in Wilmington, DE to the late Marguerite (Boyle) and Charles Ryan. She graduated from St. Elizabeth High School as a member of the class of 1953.  Betty Jane married Dan Lehane in 1959 after meeting at a party of a mutual friend.  She worked for Wilmington Trust  and JPMorgan Chase amongst other companies during her professional career. Her greatest joy was spending time with  her family, especially her grandchildren.  She loved the Christmas holidays and vacationing at the beach with her family. Betty Jane was a member of the Church of the Holy Child.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Daniel J. Lehane in 2021; daughter Susan M. Lehane; her brothers, Carl Ryan, William T. and his wife, Betty Ryan; and her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Bill Lenhoff; her sister-in-law, Joan Leahy; and brother-in-law, Cornelius Lehane.

Betty Jane is survived by her children and their spouses, Mary Beth and (Greg) Roth, Sheila and (Tim) Murray, Dan and (Mary Juliana) Lehane, and Neil and (Debbie) Lehane; grandchildren, Connor and Hannah Roth, Meghan, Kieran and Catherine Murray, Liam, Michael Finbar, Grace, and Brendan Lehane; and Aidan, Natalie and Declan Lehane; sisters-in-law Susan Lehane and Betsey Ryan, along with many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Accent Care Hospice of Christiana Hospital for their dedicated care of Betty Jane at the end of her life.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 5:30-7:30 PM at Mealey Funeral Homes, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, DE 19808.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Dining Room, 121 N Jackson St, Wilmington, DE 19805.
